The Local Conference of Youth on Climate in Yemen ("LCOY Yemen"), held in Sana'a, featured a workshop titled "Climate-Resilient Rural Roads in Yemen: Adapting Infrastructure to Climate Change."
The workshop, attended by a group of young people interested in climate issues, addressed the role of the Rural Access Roads Programme (RAP) in addressing climate change concerns, particularly as they relate to the impact on Yemen's road infrastructure.
The speaker, Mr. Salah Mughlis (Environmental and Community Protection Officer at RAP), stressed the importance of the program in addressing climate challenges, highlighting the adaptation strategies being implemented by the program to create a climate-resilient rural road network.
Mughlis provided a detailed explanation of the impacts of climate change on roads in Yemen, such as floods, droughts, and landslides, and how RAP is working to integrate adaptation practices into the planning, implementation, construction, and maintenance phases of rural roads.
The workshop sparked a lively discussion among participants on ways to enhance the resilience of rural roads in the face of climate change and the role of youth in supporting efforts in this area.
