LCOY Yemen Workshop Discusses Sustainable Agriculture, Food Systems, and Food Security in Yemen

The Local Conference of Youth on Climate ("LCOY Yemen"), held in Sana'a, featured a workshop titled "Sustainable Agriculture, Food Systems, and Food Security".

The workshop aimed to exchange knowledge on climate change and its impact on seasonal crops (coffee, mango) in Yemen, and identify sustainable agricultural solutions.

Mr. Mohammed Al Qasimi, Head of the Coffee Unit at the Supreme Agricultural and Fisheries Committee, and Mr. Muhsin Atif, Director of the Agricultural Exports Development Unit, presented at the workshop.

The workshop included open discussions among participants, including farmers, representatives of NGOs, and the private sector, on the challenges facing agriculture in Yemen and possible solutions.

Workshop participants discussed a range of important topics, including:

  • Best practices and case studies implemented in Yemen: Successful models of sustainable agriculture in Yemen were presented, focusing on water-saving irrigation techniques and pest and disease resistance.
  • Youth participation in driving change in sustainable agriculture, food systems, and food security: The spotlight was shone on the role of youth in promoting sustainable agriculture, developing food systems, and achieving food security.

The Role of Youth in Sustainable Agriculture:

Participants emphasized the crucial role of youth in driving positive change in sustainable agriculture.

They stressed the need to provide training and rehabilitation opportunities for youth to enable them to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to implement sustainable agricultural practices.

They also called for supporting youth-led agricultural entrepreneurship projects and enhancing their participation in agricultural policy decision-making.
